About
Orlando was the outcome of a perfectly definite, indeed overmastering impulse.I want fun. I want fantasy. (Virginia Woolf on creating Orlando, 1929)Mr Paul Lodder, the proprietor of Hotel Orlando, invites you to enjoy a memorable stay in his historical, 17th century house in the heart of the Amsterdam Canal Belt. Built around 1680, during the height of the Dutch Golden Age, this five-storey patrician house is characterised by its typical holbol-gevel front, one of the few left in Amsterdam. In 1994 Paul Lodder, a former lawyer who had decided to drop out of the rat race, acquired it to realise a new existence and fulfil an old dream. A seasoned traveller himself, he transformed it into the nice, small, sophisticated hotel de charme with a homely feel where he would like to stay himself. Offering personal accommodation and generous hospitality in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Making guests feel at home. A room of ones own, indeed. After a major refurbishing operation Hotel Orlando reopened in April 2004, upgraded to 3-star category. In 2010 the stylish backhouse and large renaissance garden became part of Hotel Orlando.

National Geographic TravellerThe homey Hotel Orlando may be Amsterdam lodging's best kept secret. Five cozy guest rooms in the 17th-century canal house are renovated with a nice mix of the modern (contemporary Dutch paintings, Philippe Starck lamps and furniture) ant the old (beamed ceilings, oak floors) Sunday TelegraphThis discreet little pad, spread over three floors of a stately, canal facing house dating from the 1680s, feels like a rather swanky private home. The owner, an affable ex-lawyer, has furnished the bedrooms with great flair: bare oak floors, silk curtains, Philippe Starck lighting and big, bold modern paintings set the tone. The rates are a steal.Lonely Planet travel guideOh Orlando, how do we love thee?
